I love that show is taking on shitty MLMs.

The only problem I have is that it's set in the 90's, which is all the rage right now and IMO, overdone. I would almost prefer it to be set in modern day so it can include the impact MLM's have had on social media. There's an antiMLM on reddit and I'm facinated by how these hun's, bossbabes and mama's operate. The balls these fraus have to make fools out of themselves never gets old.

R12 I saw a lot of her social media posts. She was shilling the MLM crap 24/7 and claimed that her lupus and other health issues were improved because of the Thrive crap. One of the big issues with shady MLM companies is that they sometimes target people with chronic illnesses or disabilities. A friend of mine has multiple sclerosis and she has been approached by MLM reps claiming their products could help cure her MS.

If any of you have time to kill, read the anti-MLM reddit thread. These women are using dead children and personal tragedies in order to sling more shit on social media. It is insane. You have concerned distant family members posting stories .... who for the most part have been ignored until 'niece' invites them over out of the blue just to hit them up with a super pushy sales pitch ... DEMANDING hundreds of dollars a month

One fascinatingly bad rhetorical strategy that MLM-ers of all stripes like to use is, "No, YOU work for a pyramid scheme! You have a boss who makes more than you do!"

There’s a Fb group - “Sounds like MLM but ok” - which is a bit like a support group for friends and relatives of huns. People share screengrabs of the posts and conversations they have had to endure. My sister is a #bossbabe and it’s been interesting to see how all these MLMs, and the huns, are so similar in their tactics, language etc. Whatever the product, and wherever they are in the world, from the US or UK or Australia, they are all posting variations of the exact same shit all the time.

Are these similar to chain letters? Those are annoying af.

I live near the headquarters of Amway, about 20 years ago any time you were asked to go to a meeting and the person was vague about what it was about you could assume it was for Amway. I got pissed at so many people trying to rope me in.

What is a hun?

Hun (noun) 1. a member of a warlike Asiatic nomadic people who invaded and ravaged Europe in the 4th–5th centuries. 2. a frau who sells candles, essential oils, skin cream etc. through an MLM company, and posts incessantly on social media about her “business” and how she is a #bossbabe

I'm the one who lives by Amway. The last time was the last straw, I met a couple at my apartment complex (now I have a home) and they invited me over on a Saturday night. I brought along some food and they came to the door in their Sunday clothes, I walked in and they went through a long Amway spiel. I was mad as hell because I thought it was an evening of socializing and I was tricked. I learned later that Amway tells their reps not to tell the person you are with Amway, they trick you.

There was this movie where the main character was nervous about this couple because he thought the couple was trying to initiate a threesome . It was becoming an extremely awkward situation until he found out that it wasn't sex that they were after, they wanted him to buy into amway.. What movie was that? It was so funny.. can't remember what movie it was...

R28 I remember when I first saw that poster in 1999. I thought it was Taylor Hanson and was surprised that he'd made a movie. It wasn't until years later (like very recently) that I finally got around to watching it and realized it was a girl.

Watched the first 2 episodes and I liked it, I'm in. A lot of cringeworthy moments in the beginning, mostly Alexander Skarsgard's character

Caught up with this show and LOVE it. It's basically "Drop Dead Gorgeous" if Amber Atkins' life didn't go so well. That beauty agent number in ep. 2-so freakin' good!

She is so good! Melancholia is one of my favorite movies but I never really realized how much I like Dunst. She elevates everything she’s in.

I've watched the first three episodes. Kirsten Dunst is fantastic -- the series less so. I like Théodore Pellerin as the FAM toady though. It sometimes feels like People of Walmart come to life, but I assume it will become more resonant as it develops.

Dunst is really, really good and Théodore Pellerin is funny, sad and a little self-consciously adorable, which is great. The neighbors are good characters. Unfortunately, it feels like the show exists more as a critique of Amway and less as a story about the characters. I hope that evolves because honestly it’s the only part of the show I don’t have any interest in. I have enjoyed Dunst’s character’s relationships with the alligators much more! They kill and eat her husband, she kills and eats them...

R59 is completely out of his mind. Kirsten Dunst looks fine and is a fantastic actress, which is why she has consistently kept getting hired and has an audience that follows her projects.

She is an executive producer on this show, and one detail I love is the braces. I wonder if that was in the original script or not. I used to see Perez Hilton, Dlisted and all those cruel celebrity blogs make fun of her teeth every time her name came up because her teeth aren’t Hollywood-perfect. I love that her character had braces and then liberated herself by taking them off, revealing slightly imperfect alignment. I hope she added that to the storyline as a fuck-you to all the assholes that mock her appearance.

Like r40 I HIGHLY recommend the podcast called The Dream, breaks down the history of MLMs and what's it like living it. Only 7 episodes so not a huge commitment. Did you know the DeVoss' got their money from Amway? And Gerald Ford gave Amway a pass during a federal investigation because they were big donors from his district... I never knew.

Pellerin’s super-flamboyant dancing and the kid’s dancing were good parallels. I really hope Pellerin’s character is a repressed homo because if he’s supposed to be straight, there goes my suspension of disbelief.

You think the 9 year old son is gay? I just thought he innocently like the music in that Paula Abdul video and daddy & mommy blew it out of proportion.

I don't want Ernie and his family hurt but (no spoilers please) since he is such a good hearted person I think he will be a terrible salesman and go broke from the pyramid scheme.

R83 Seems inevitable. I admire Dunst’s character’s resilience, but deciding to prey on her best friend and his family makes me want to see her eaten by alligator. However, her apparent intention in episode three before she made a surprise switch (I won’t spoil it.) makes me think she will keep surprising us. The show is billed as a dark comedy, so hopefully it won’t be a real tragedy.

But that's how MLMs work, the only way to actually be successful is to take advantage of a lot of people under you. If Dunst character is "becoming a God in Central Florida", there will inevitably be bodies left behind in her wake.

Maybe, but I have a (here comes a theory, not a spoiler) that she’ll (obviously) be discovered by the founder of the company and promoted to being a very high-level influencer, actually get rich, and then ultimately out the whole thing as a scam and a fraud...and in doing so, she’ll probably find a new way to con people and find some poor young person to mentor.

Fuck Pellerin’s character - that's the weak link and he's ugly.

Agreed, R83/R84 — when Ernie said, “I’m in!” my heart sunk. Seems like a nice guy and I hate to see him and his family get swept up with these MLM creeps. Dunst is really terrific on this show.

I thought Bonar’s dad didn’t want to talk to him because Bonar was trying to recruit his dad. If you’re only visiting me to shill FAM, I’d rather not have the company.

I asked earlier where Pellerin has been all this time and I just realised he was that artist guy in Boy Erased! Bitch is going places, for sure.

They are for the most part, but they feature gay talent and gay stories and are told with a gay sensibility, so I make sure to support them. Not many of those around on our TV...

Kirsten is terrific in this role, you really believe she is this character and even though she can be unlikable you root for her. The actors who play Ernie and Cody are great too.

The thing with the death audio guy was a pretty bizarre sequence.

I think I’m done with this. Four episodes in and it’s barely holding my interest. Dunst is good but the writing isn’t.

I really loved the fever dream running through this whole episode. I hope she stays sick for the rest of the season so it’ll keep being that weird.

Another fine episode, though the dream sequence with Ted Levine was a bit much. Hadn’t seen Sharon Lawrence in years. The lifestyle of these MLM fanatics is depressing. Dunst continues to impress — she’s really outstanding!

I just noticed the episode description on Amazon says she catches a bird sickness. That went over my head. I thought she was just being pushed to being overtired like her gatorbait hubby.

This is one of the worst television shows I’ve ever seen. It aims for quirkiness but it’s just a mess.

I'm enjoying it, Kirsten is doing an amazing job with this role.

I really like it, right now I am watching a few new shows and this actually is my favorite.

I watched a few episodes. It's all over the place. Ultimately I didn't care. The characters are excessively cartoonish.

I agree R113 I’m enjoying the show, overall. However, it’s really messy and the writing and editing is all over the place. There are so many characters coming and going. I completely forgot about the Cuban reporter until tonight’s episode, for example.

Dunst is doing a remarkable job. The story is quirky and sometimes all over the place, but there are many amusing moments. They're building something with her character and the MLM scheme...enough to want to hang in there to find out. Timothee Pellerin is really homely, but the more I watch, the more appealing he becomes.

His name is Théodore and he should be getting Timothée's work.

I don't find this show messy. It's deliberately loopy. But behind everything is a cold look at American culture and capitalism and it's grim. Black comedy indeed.
